Snow Plowing With The Enfield Highway Department- A View From the Wing

Yesterday I had the privilege of riding “wing” in a snow plow with Gabe Newhart of the Enfield Highway Dept. (as did Town Clerk, Alice Linton) It was very helpful in shaping my perspective, as Town Supervisor, to the challenges and needs our Highway Department faces.

Ongoing concerns from my view going forward are updated and durable equipment, a sand storage shed, and a generator for better management of fueling and opening bay doors (among other concerns) during bad weather events in particular.

Ways We Can Help As A Community

When you see the plow coming, please be mindful to give them space to do the work we need them to in order to keep our roads safe and clear.

Another way to help is to make sure your mailbox is up to spec so the snowplow wing can go right under it (with the added perk of making it so you don’t have to shovel it out for your mail carrier!).

Click here for Mailbox Guidance. While the snow season may seem like it’s nearly over, the season to update your mailbox is just around the corner!

Many thanks to Highway Superintendent Buddy Rollins for accommodating my request to ride along and for the whole Highway Department staff for their commitment to working well together to get this work done safely and efficiently. Special thanks to Gabe Newhart for driving so safely!
