Dear Enfield Residents-
The Enfield Town Board has proposed several new Local Laws to be explored regarding the positions of Town Supervisor, Highway Superintendent and Clerk. At the Regular Meeting of the Enfield Town Board on June 10th, board members wished to hear Public comment on these proposals and set a date for June 30th, 2020 to do so through a Public Hearing.
An official notice of the Public Hearing was not published due to confusion as to the nature of the proposals and potential conflicts in the outcomes should any or all of them be adopted.
As Town Supervisor, after consulting with our attorney, I have determined we are not quite ready to bring these proposals to Public Hearing, as it’s not clear what the board intends by proposing them.
The June meeting will stay on the calendar as a Special Meeting and, as always, residents are welcome and encouraged to comment on this and other issues during Privilege of The Floor. The Town Board will use this meeting to clarify the goals of the proposals and make clear what the Public is being asked to consider.
As has been our tradition, we aim for transparency of our Local Government and engagement by and with the Public to help us determine the best way forward for the Town of Enfield. We appreciate your patience as we work on these proposals and provide clarity for your consideration of them.
Beth McGee
Town Supervisor
