Proposed Enfield Farmer’s Market, Garden, and Community Programs Project

The following is a proposal by Enfield resident, Amelia Weatherby. The Enfield Town board encourages community support for this initiative. If you would like to help Amelia with this goal, please reach out to her. What a wonderful community vision for Enfield!

Enfield Farmer’s Market, Garden, and Community Programs

Aka: The Enfield Farmer’s Community Center

Vision:

The Enfield Farmers Community Center will be a location and resource for our community to grow more resilient and strong together, by learning and sharing skills for sustainable living. The skills learned and relationships forged through the programs and events held at the Center will contribute to food security for Enfield’s citizens. The Enfield Community Center will also house a Farmers Market, which will provide an opportunity for locals and others to buy produce and products. This will serve to encourage our economic growth and stability.

Mission:

A committee of Enfield locals will plan and execute the construction of an outdoor pavilion structure and educational garden. These assets will be built with sustainable and locally sourced materials. Which will be inexpensive, environmentally friendly, functional, and beautiful.

This committee will also take action to provide the following Workshops and Programs, in collaboration with the Enfield Food Pantry and The Enfield Valley Grange

-Learning permaculture techniques to grow food with minimal input.

-Locals selling their produce at the market regardless of how much they have

-A seed bank and resources for personal and community gardening projects

-Food preservation education and resources

-Community Dinners made from produce we have grown

-Donation of produce to the Enfield Pantry

-Preparation of produce to provide meals for neighbors

I envision construction taking place in a location near our Enfield town center. Recognizing that I cannot foresee all of the possible complications to choosing any specific plot of land, the task of finding the right location will be delegated to the committee.

I acknowledge, accept and look forward to inevitable changes in this mission statement as the committee works together to find the best fitting steps for our community.
