The Enfield Ladies Auxiliary is always looking for volunteers to join us. If you would like to support the brave men and women who place their lives on the line to protect your family and property, come and join us. We meet the first Monday after the first Thursday of the month; meetings start at 7:00 pm.

We have a very strong group of ladies who serve the County, Central New York and State levels as officers. In 2011 Judy Hetherington will be going in as President of the Central New York Ladies Auxiliary in July. In August, Pam Whittaker will start her second year as President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York.

Part of the job of an auxiliary is to support our local fire departments, but we also play a roll in supporting legislation to protect both the firemen and departments in all areas across the state. We also provide coffee and hot chocolate on those cold late nights when the firemen are called out to structure fires. These usually always seem to happen in the middle of the night or when it is snowing or raining.

We would like to thank everyone for their support of the Bake Sales we have been having at the Firemen’s Chicken Barbecues.  Come and enjoy a great meal and take home some dessert for the rest of the week!

If you would like to join us, come down to the Firehouse when we are having our regular meetings and we would be happy to answer any of your questions.

Stay safe,
The Ladies of the Enfield Fire Company Auxiliary

HISTORY OF LADIES AUXILIARY OF ENFIELD VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY (1996)

By Annabelle Seamon and Fern Smith Ferris

Ladies Auxiliary formed July 1953. There were 31 Charter Members.    The purpose of the Ladies Auxiliary is to promote the welfare and render any assistance whereever possible to the fire company. Promote sociability among the members of the auxiliary. Originally the constitution states members of the auxiliary must be wife, widow, sister, daughter or mother of a current Enfield Volunteer Fireman.

When the auxiliary was first formed we assisted by bringing coffee and refreshments to the fire scene. As the Fire Company developed we assisted with dinners, breakfasts, barbecues, and dances by furnishing refreshments and support systems. When the firemen started having carnivals as fundraisers the auxiliary worked in all capacities at the carnival grounds (State Route 327 and 79 West, known as Millers Corners). The participation of the community is what made this a financial success.

The ladies auxiliary purchased uniforms to wear in parades at firemen’s carnivals. We won money and many trophies. Other projects to make money were:   community calendars, cake wheels, raffles, sold knives, candy and toys. Over the years the auxiliary has donated $25,000 to the Enfield Fire Company.

Enfield auxiliary pays membership dues to:   Ladies Auxiliary of Tompkins County, Central New York and New York State (LAFASNY). When Enfield Auxiliary joined Tompkins County Auxiliary, Groton, Lansing, McLean and Virgil were also members, but as of 1996 only Enfield, Groton and McLean were members. Being a member of the other auxiliaries you have friendship and information as to what other auxiliaries are doing, as well as, the current legislation that is taking place.

There is a beautiful Fireman’s Home, hospital, museum in Hudson, New York that is supported by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) and Ladies Auxiliary of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (LAFASNY), without support from New York State. Retired and disabled firemen that wish to, can live there. Auxiliaries adopt a firemen to support financially and spiritually. The museum is very large and holds antiquated fire apparatus and mementoes.
